10 Oct How to Avoid a Frightful Halloween Plumbing Disaster
Did you know that the week before Halloween could be the hardest on your kitchen plumbing?
It seems like you can buy a pumpkin at any place you run across; grocery stores, corner shops—even gas station markets are starting to sell crates and crates full of the jolly fall gourd. But have you ever stopped to ask yourself, “What could they be doing to my plumbing?”
From jack-o-lanterns and centerpieces to tasty pies and drinks, it seems like we are adding pumpkins to anything. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, “Total U.S. pumpkin production in 2015 was 753.8 million pounds of pumpkins” It is no surprise that Americans love pumpkins, but kitchen pipes beware!
This Halloween you don’t have to be afraid of spirits and ghosts, but you should be fearful of a spooky pumpkin clogged sink!
Call All American Plumbing Services, 727.943.8300, if you have any questions about your clogged sink!
Dense, tough pulp and huge seeds are a nightmare for your drains and garbage disposals. Pumpkin pulp comes out looking stringy and very sticky, but when it is exposed to the air and starts to dry it becomes hard and difficult to remove from any surface. When you wash this mixture down your drain it sticks to the blades of your garbage disposal and blocks your pipes; many times your disposal can be permanently ruined. Halloween plumbing problems are no joke!
Unless you want to see us soon to fix your Halloween plumbing problems, follow these simple pumpkin tips:
Don’t even think about it:
NEVER put pumpkin guts, seeds or pulp into your sink drain, garbage disposal or toilet. Make sure you dispose of these in your garbage bin.
Make cleanup spook-tacular:
When cleaning out your holiday pumpkin, lay down old newspaper or paper bags to collect the insides. When you are done, you can just roll up the paper and throw it away!
Recycle the seeds:
Pumpkin seeds make a great healthy snack! Don’t try to pour those goodies down the drain. Soak the seeds in water and bake with a little bit of salt for a tasty and crunchy fall treat!
Save for next year:
Pumpkin seeds are easy to pick out and plant for next year. Grow your own festive pumpkins!
If you follow a few of these tips, pumpkin carving and baking can be just as fun, easy and clean as washing everything down the drain.
